First prize in the Woodturning Category was awarded to Robert O’Connor from Gorey, County Wexford, for his entry Eye to the Ridge, a combination of glass and woodturning, with wood turned pieces fixed to glass elements with a ‘red eye’ at its centre. Mr O’Connor’s entry proves that the traditional skills and elements of turning can be used to create startling contemporary sculptures.
